ACES Casino Night Chairs 2022

ACES Casino Night 2022 is getting closer! The CAC would like to recognize this year’s Event Chairs who are working hard to make sure October 21st is a night to remember! This year’s Event Chairs are Terri Ann Weathers, Miles Huff, and Drew Thompson. The CAC is incredibly grateful for all the time and effort the chairs have given to planning ACES and for their dedication to helping child abuse victims in our community.

We asked our chairs a few questions about their involvement with the CAC and the upcoming event; see their answers below and join us on October 21st at Chattanooga Whiskey Event Hall at 7:00 pm for ACES Casino Night 2022!

  1. How did you become involved with the CAC?
    • Terri Ann Weathers: I worked with Lisa Moore in another city and knew working with her again would be a blast.  We reconnected when she moved to Chattanooga, and her love and fire for CAC was contagious.  Once learning more about CAC and what this place does for so many kids... of course, I wanted to do something!  I was on the last ACES committee, so fun! and then joined the CAC board and now co-chairing ACES with Miles and Drew.
    • Miles Huff: I first got involved with the CAC years ago, taking place in a 5k fundraiser benefitting the organization. I learned about the mission of the CAC, and wanted to support however possible. Fast forward to now, and I am so lucky to call myself a board member and now co-chair for ACES Casino Night 2022.
    • Drew Thompson: After attending the last ACES event and learning about all of the wonderful programs that they provide for the children and families of Chattanooga, I decided to support the organization however I could.  When asked to co-chair the event with my husband and CAC board member, Miles Huff, I jumped at the opportunity!
  2. What are you most looking forward to about ACES Casino Night 2022?
    • Terri Ann Weathers: I am so looking forward to the sheer fun of ACES!  and seeing how our amazing friends and supporters come out to HELP US HELP KIDS!  I am excited to see my friends and see them learn more about the CAC.  ACES is how you take a difficult subject and make it positive!  Helping kids!
    • Miles Huff: Aside from the fact that this will be an incredibly fun night to remember, I look forward to seeing supporters of the CAC in person and coming together for such a worthy cause and worthy organization. It has been such an honor to be a part of this event committee, and seeing the hard work of the CAC be celebrated will be worth all of our hard work!
    • Drew Thompson: I am most looking forward to the live auction. As exciting as it is to participate in the silent auction, it is even more thrilling to watch the bidding competitions that ensue over all of the fabulous items!
  3. How do you think ACES Casino Night 2022 will help bring awareness to CAC services provided to victims of child abuse?
    • Terri Ann Weathers: ACES is not only super fun!  It spreads the word on the CAC.  I find most people are shocked to hear how many lives are affected by child abuse and the number of kids CAC services every year right here in Chattanooga.  ACES raised funds for the CAC yet also educated others on what is happening and what CAC is doing for the hurt in our community.  I am still shocked how many have no idea.  I didn't either until I had lunch with my friend Lisa after she moved here.
    • Miles Huff: Far too many people suffer in silence due the impact of childhood sexual abuse, and it is a topic that goes undiscussed too often. As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, supporting events like ACES Casino Night ensure this topic is brought into the light and generate vital funds to further the mission and impact of the Children’s Advocacy Center in our community.
    • Drew Thompson: At events such as ACES, awareness is promoted throughout the community by people having a great evening and telling their friends and family members about ACES and the CAC. So everyone should promote this wonderful organization and their work by buying a ticket and having a great time!

Woof! Woof! It’s Ashley the Chief Happiness Officer here to make an important announcement!

September is National Facility/Service Dog Month! I am so proud to be the CAC’s facility dog and want to tell you a little more about my job! Every day I come to work at the CAC and do my best to make the children who visit feel safe. I can tell when a child feels a little scared or nervous about coming to a new space so I like to play ball with them or even just sit beside them! I sometimes even get to go on tours of the center or sit in on interviews with them! My CAC coworkers also get stressed or sad sometimes from all of the amazing work they do, so I like to surprise them occasionally in their offices. I like to make my coworkers smile! Thank you for letting me work at the CAC!

The CAC loves Ashley and is so grateful for the love and support she provides! Give her extra pets this September when you see her at the office!

Become a Change Maker!

One of our first lessons as children is that coins add up to dollars. Coins clink into piggy banks as treasured possessions. You can buy something great from the ice cream truck when the right amount is present. As adults, coins become a hassle-something that weighs the wallet down, clanks around in your pocket, or even gets lost in your car.

Some people delight in saving their coins. These money savers see spare change add up to hundreds, sometimes even thousands of dollars. While that might be excessive for most, it’s obvious that spare change counts.

For a nonprofit such as the CAC, spare change can be used to help another child. While you could collect spare change by setting up a jar as a catch-all for later, spare change can also be collected and donated digitally through our #ChangeMaker program.

All proceeds from #ChangeMaker will go towards our Prevention Education Programs. Your change helps us to continue to serve children and adults in Hamilton County through our Lauren’s Kids Programs for children and Recognizing and Reporting and Stewards of Children programs for adults. Just last year over 7,000 people received trainings from the CAC.

The Conversation Starts at Home

September is National Suicide Prevention Month.

Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among kids aged 10–14 and the 3rd leading cause of death among people aged 15-24.

It is so important kids learn from a young age about mental health and how to use their voice to talk to someone if they feel sad, alone or experience symptoms of depression. Click here to learn more about prevention or the button below to start the conversation with your kids.
